Five Alpine Bowls

Fernie’s signature feature is its five massive alpine bowls — each with distinct character:

  • Siberia Bowl: North-facing, holds powder longest. Expert terrain with steep chutes.
  • Timber Bowl: Gladed tree skiing and open faces. The most consistent powder stash.
  • Currie Bowl: Wide-open alpine above treeline. Great on bluebird days.
  • Lizard Bowl: Moderate pitch with a mix of trees and open. Good advanced-intermediate terrain.
  • Cedar Bowl: Old-growth cedar forest with natural gaps. Low-angle tree skiing.

The Town of Fernie

Unlike purpose-built resort villages, Fernie is a real working town with a 1904 heritage downtown, independent restaurants, craft breweries (Fernie Brewing Co.), and a laid-back ski-town culture. It was originally a coal mining town — the historic downtown on 2nd Avenue is listed as a Heritage Conservation Area. This authenticity is a major draw for skiers tired of manufactured resort atmospheres.
