Ontario’s Vertical Versus Western Standards

At 220 metres of vertical, Blue Mountain does not compete with Rocky Mountain resorts — and it does not try to. What it offers is the biggest and most varied terrain in Ontario, with reliable snowmaking covering virtually the entire mountain. For the 6+ million people living within a 2-hour drive, it is the only real option for regular skiing without boarding a plane.

Night Skiing

Blue Mountain’s extensive night skiing program is a major draw. After work on a Friday, GTA skiers can drive up, hit the slopes under lights from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM, and still be home at a reasonable hour. The floodlit runs cover terrain from beginner to advanced, making evening sessions worthwhile for all ability levels.

The Village at Blue Mountain

The pedestrian village at the base has evolved into a year-round resort destination independent of the skiing:

  • Restaurants and bars — over 20 dining options from casual pub fare to fine dining
  • Scandinave Spa — Nordic-style outdoor hot/cold pools overlooking the escarpment
  • Ridge Runner Mountain Coaster — a gravity-powered alpine coaster that operates summer and fall
  • Shopping and entertainment in the village core

Competitive History

Blue Mountain has hosted FIS (International Ski Federation) races, putting Ontario on the competitive skiing map. The resort’s race training programs have produced provincial and national-level athletes despite the modest vertical — proof that technique development does not require big mountains.

Summer & Fall

When the snow melts, Blue Mountain pivots to mountain biking, hiking, the Scenic Caves adventure park, golf, and the popular Apple Pie Trail through the surrounding Collingwood countryside. The four-season approach keeps the village vibrant year-round and makes Blue Mountain far more than just a ski hill.
